I don't have any pictures to post, but know that I have not been on the blog in a long time! We have been so super busy with our move to South West Florida that I have not had time to even take a photo! We are so thankful for all that God has done in our lives over the last few months! He has worked out each and every detail of our move that I can't begin to write into words His amazing grace on our behalf! We have been so busy of late, unpacking the multiple boxes of 38 years of marriage! Now the challenge is: Where do we put all of our "stuff"? Stay tuned..................

Think back ten years! We did not have any grandkids, we were ten years younger, packing up our youngest to go off to Virginia Tech. We had one out of four married and were living in the Annapolis area of Maryland. Ten years later, ten years older and I can't even count all of the moves we have made as far as housing. We have all four daughters married and a grand total of 20 in our immmedidate family! I wonder what I will write TEN years from now?

A week with Callen, Maggie and Maura

We had a fun week with the Callen, Maggie and Maura. The kids loved watching DVD's while traveling in the car. They really got into the Planet Earth Series. We took them to a Shark Study at the Rutgers Research Center to learn about sharks. We had a fun lunch at Stewart's Root Beer that day. The following day we went blueberry picking which is always an enjoyable time with the grandkids. In between events, the kids lived in our backyard pool or enjoyed crabbing out on our dock. On Thursday, we went on a day trip to the Adventure Aquarium. They got to see the shark tunnel and loved seeing all they had learned at the shark study. The kids went to their cousin's DVBS closing program on Friday and got to spend the afternoon with them here at the house. ( The Krason girls also spent Tuesday afternoon with us) Pop helped the kids build cardboard box boats for the Saturday morning Boating Event at the Barnegat Bay Beach. We gave Callen an early birthday present of a "cell" phone that afternoon before picking up Tara and Michael at the airport. T&M had a fun vacation in Mexico while Pop and Grandma had a fantastic time with three of our ten grandchildren!

Living Shoreline Planting in St. Michaels Maryland

On Sunday we attended a living shoreline planting in St. Michaels Maryland. It was a tribute to my nephew Kennedy Michael Fitzgerald who perished in a house fire almost two years ago. In addition to the plantings, monies were donated to the CBF from a fundraiser Clara did on behalf of her sister Maggie who also perished in the fire. It was a memorable day for all! The last photo was taken on the property where Matthew and Peggy use to live. The believe sign sits where their house use to be.

My friend Alba passed away today from a three year battle with cancer. She was only 46 years of age. She leaves behind a husband and a daughter, Michelle, who is a senior in college. I watched Alba for three years go through this ugly disease. It started out as breast cancer, then it went to brain cancer and then it spread throughout her body. It was tough seeing Alba go through times of intense pain. I know now that she is in heaven and is pain free! I will miss my friend Alba!

John and I went boating today. Four boats went out with 14 people; we headed over to Fort Myers Beach. There is a Public Dock which you can use "free"!! The beach was "no charge" and a two minute walk from the dock! We had a fun day!

All of a sudden, sauntering out of a homestead's driveway on the left, comes this 8 to 9 foot pre-historic beast (aka alligator) right in front of us! John and I met up with some friends in New Orleans this past weekend. We enjoyed walking the town and I got to take a paddle boat out in the Mississippi River! Notice the

new levee system they had to build as Katrina knocked out quite a bit of the river's levees. Notice how much higher the river level is than the land! NOLA truly is a city beneath the sea!

Today would have been Maggie's 20th Birthday. Four dozen roses showed up at the house and I understand the Optimist Kennedy Tree at the YMCA is filled with roses again. We are blessed with such wonderful friends and such a great, compassionate community.

The five of us had a nice dinner tonight and celebrated Maggie together. Happy birthday Mags! - wherever you are. We love you and miss you so.

I haven't written in a while. I suppose that's a good sign, although I'm not sure. I do think writing these missives and connecting with all of you is therapuetic and I am still in need of therapy - that's for sure.

We just returned from a 5 day cruise on the MV Explorer, the ship on which Garrett and Kennedy circumnavigated the globe in the fall of 2006. The Zultys, our dear friends and partners in the 1828 Reunion House in Vermont, wanted to make a significant gift to the Semester at Sea program to honor Kennedy's memory. We joined them and together we made a five year commitment to the program which resulted in a beautiful classroom on the ship being named for Kennedy - the Kennedy M. Fitzgerald Classroom. In addition, we were invited to be part of the Parent's Council which is a component of the Board of Directors. Peggy and I spent an extra day on the ship learning all about the program, its history, recruitment processes, funding efforts and most importantly its future. We are both very excited to be a part of this organization and to honor Kennedy in this way.

If you have College age children I would encourage you to look into this program. It is a life changing transformational experience. The ship, built in 2002, can accomodate up to 740 students and sails for 3 months at a time (a Semester - hence the name). It cicumnavigates the globe stopping in 10 to 12 ports along the way. Garrett and Kennedy left in late August from Mexico stopping in Hawaii, Japan, China (saw the Great Wall), Hong Kong, Viet Namn, Myamar (Burma), India, Egypt (saw the Pyramids), Turkey, Croatia and Spain before returning to Fort Lauderdale in December. Tien Nguyen (our 6th child) just returned from a similar voyage aboard Semester at Sea for fall 2008. The students take a full College course load while they are at sea. The courses are academically sponsored by the University of Virginia and taught by visiting professors from some of the best Colleges in the Country. The program is simply wonderful and nowhere near as expensive as you're porbably thinking. Check it out as http://www.semesteratsea.org/ .

The other big activity for the day to celebrate Maggie's memory was my lunch meeting with Mr. Nemeth, the Prinicpal of Maggie's High School. I have been invited on to the School's Advisory Committee. This is the same school that so many of you donated to in honor of Maggie. Thank you again for your incredible generosity. The Advisory Committee, in addition to lending a hand with oversight of the current school, is exploring the possibility of building a new High School. It's still in the exploratory and fact finding stage but nonetheless is exciting and I am enthusiastic about being a part of the process. I feel a connection to Maggie in this work, as she was President of her class at the school. I dedicate my efforts in this noble endeavor to her memory.

Garrett has been admitted to the University of Baltimore Law School (hooray!!). He just learned today that the University of Baltimore is offering him a full three year scholarship! Great news. Garrett has also applied to the University of Maryland, American University and Catholic University's Law Schools but has yet to hear from them.

Clara is enjoying her Junior year at Saints Peter and Paul HS, as is Bernadette in her Freshman year. Peggy continues her work at the Talbot Hospice and I am still commuting to DC and my job at the American College of Cardiology. We are all doing well. Obviously we all miss Kennedy and Maggie immensely, the great sorrow is never far from our conciousness, but we are healing and life goes on. We strive to be happy and to be present in the present, honoring our wonderful past and daring to dream bright dreams for the future.

Today my niece, Maggie Rose, would have turned 20. We lost Maggie, Kennedy and Christine in a tragic house fire on August 18, 2007. Kennedy is Maggie's brother and he was 20 at the time of the fire. Christine was Kennedy's girlfriend and was 19 at the time of her death. I do not have a day go by without thinking of Maggie and Kennedy. I loved having Maggie's birthday close to mine! My niece Courtney shares a January birthday as well! When Maggie and Kennedy were little, Matthew and Peggy would go to Long Beach Island, NJ for summer vacations. They have five kids! Our girls would go down to be "mother's helpers" for Peggy. I would drive them down and pick them up. I took this picture one summer. This picture is of Kennedy and Maggie! The flash on the window behind them is so "angelic" to me. I scanned it into my computer as the picture was taken before I went digital! We miss you................

John and I went to a cocktail party on a 97 foot yacht last evening. It is docked in Ft Myers right now, but based out of Ft. Lauderdale. John knows the owner, Lags. He is the man who started the Hooter's Restaurant Chain. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset and lovely views.

My precious grandchild Abigail has been in the hospital since yesterday morning. She has had a low oxygen count......so she needs oxygen for healthy breathing! They are suspecting asthma, bummer.
